In the women’s 50m freestyle, Kate Campbell of Speedo-sponsored Team Australia and Marleen Veldhuis of Speedo-sponsored Team Netherlands tied for bronze, both touching the wall in 23.99. Germany’s Britta Steffen won gold and lowered the World Record to 23.73. Therese Alshammar of Sweden won silver in 23.88.
